How to Get (and Stay) Fit Over 40

Recently, I had the pleasure of working out next to my former self. She was young and fit, with skin as smooth as porcelain. I found myself being a tiny bit catty and snarky in my head while she was doing her perfect leg lifts. “That’s not so hard,” I said to myself. “I can do that.”

…Well, maybe not right now because my hip hurts from “Too Much Sitting on My Butt” Syndrome, and I’m still really sore from that spin class I took the other day…

Ugh—getting old sucks!

But as quickly as the snarky comments in my head appeared, they disappeared. So, I sucked up my pride, peeled my 43-year-old body off the floor and looked her way. As she was probably completing her 50th Jane Fonda-like leg lift, I looked at her and said, “Great form.”

She smiled, said thank you and returned the compliment: “You’re really fit for your age. How old are you? Like 40 or something?”

Yeah, I’m like 40 or something.

If you’re anything like me, getting and staying fit over 40 is not only important for your physical health but also your overall mental wellbeing. That’s why I teamed up with fitness expert, founder and CEO of the and/life mobile app, Andrea Marcellus, to come up with six tips to help you get (and stay) fit after 40.
