Prereq: Youth must be Apprentice II or higher. Adults must have completed two mild steel classes. Youth should have a basic understanding of chemistry prior to coming to class as we will be discussing how steel is formed and transformed through different heating and cooling cycles. DO YOU WANT TO MAKE GREAT KNIVES? Of course -- and the heat treat is key. This two half-day class is a combined presentation and hands-on class where we dive into what makes steel --- well, steel! We talk about how different steels are made, discuss their uses, review heat treat principles, and walk through practical demonstrations where we examine the grain under different conditions. This class is held over two Saturday mornings -- 9am - Noon.
